New Hope Intervention Programs

*Program designed specifically for domestic violence offenders offering batterer's intervention and anger management services *Offers Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP) for men and for women (separate groups); program consists of 26 weekly psycho-educational sessions, each 90 minutes in length; meetings are two halves, first half is an informational segment; second half, participants break into small therapy groups to discuss information presented and gain insight on a personal level as awareness of previous abusive patterns is developed; Other services: assessments and counseling for individuals, families, couples and victims and perpetrators of domestic violence, practice includes therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioral *Therapy, Solution-focused therapy, Crisis Intervention, Narrative Therapy, as well as strengths based and problem-solving interventions; techniques used include art, music, writing, and talk therapy Fees are based on a sliding scale starting at $15 per session; plus an assessment fee of $60 for men, no assessment for women; Anger management programs include 5 one hour weekly meetings ($10 each), or a 1-day 5 hour workshop held one Saturday per month ($50); all fees are payable by cash or money order only on the day of class *Gadsden County groups held at a location in Quincy

*Provides educational programming and support services to hearing impaired students in Leon, Gadsden, Madison, Wakulla, Jefferson, and Taylor counties *Continuum of services is provided, depending on individual needs, extending from full-time placement in a special class for hearing impaired students to full-time placement in a mainstream class with consultation *Special assistance may be provided by a teacher certified in Hearing Disabilities, an audiologist, a speech language pathologist, an interpreter, a note taker, or by the fitting of amplification equipment

*Outreach effort of FSU College of Medicine with support from Florida's Area Health Education Centers *Identifies and mentors middle school students with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in science, engineering, mathematics, health, or medicine *Pre-college component open to students from designated Florida high schools: after-school programs in Leon and Orange Counties, in-school in Collier, Gadsden, Madison, Okaloosa, and Walton Counties

Florida State Hospital (Chattahoochee)

*Adult residential psychiatric hospital for persons with severe and persistent mental illness or developmental disabilities to manage symptoms and acquire skills, two categories of patients are treated at the hospital; those civilly committed under Statute 394 and those forensically committed under Statute 916 *All residents have been committed by a judge - either civilly on a Baker Act Order or Criminally under a forensic order *Patients in the forensic central unit primarily are a seriously and persistently mentally ill population of males and female defendants with felony chargers who are Incompetent to Proceed or Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity *Civil Transition Program is a male and female statewide program that serves civil residents and individuals previously in a forensic setting who no longer need that level of security and with court approval may reside in a lesser restrictive civil environment, civil clients are 18 years and older, unable to live in less restrictive available alternatives in their communities *Specialty Care Program serves a diverse population of individuals requiring mental health treatment and services, including civil and forensic step downs; this unit also houses the Geriatric unit who also require significant medical care due to age; the programs also servers patients with dual diagnoses of mental health and developmental disability

Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend

*Child Care program that provides tuition assistance to young children that allows them to be in a safe, conducive learning environment to prepare them to enter the school system allowing parents to work, knowing their children are in a positive educational environment; voluntary Pre-kindergarten: approved list of providers *Parents may register for VPK and apply for the School Readiness program for child care assistance online or call for assistance; Trained counselors can assist callers in choosing programs that best fit their child's and family's needs including other services in the Whole Child network such as Food Stamps *Parents may apply online for child care assistance; if eligible, they will be placed on a waiting list and notified when funds are available *Free screening for hearing and vision can be requested by emailing resources@elcbigbend.
