Thanksgiving Tallahassee

*Annual free Thanksgiving Meal at the American Legion Post 13 at 229 Lake Ella Drive, 32303, 11am - 1pm, on Thanksgiving Day for people who are alone or have no one with whom to share the holiday including homeless persons, older adults, families in need, college students, members of law enforcement, others who work on Thanksgiving Day or are away from families; no one will be turned away *Guests receive a traditional Thanksgiving meal, entertainment (a band), and free long distance phone service to speak to loved ones *Round trip free Star Metro bus transportation will be provided from and back to: The Kearney Center, Hope Community, Westgate, Home Front, Hayden Arms and Tallahassee Veteran's Village, Balkan Road; additional stops can be added for groups of 15 or more; wheelchair and bicycle transport available *Volunteers needed for food prep, cooking, serving, set-up, clean-up, transport of food, transport of individuals, etc.

Tallahassee Lions Club

*Service club that collects, recycles, and donates eyeglasses and hearing aids for those in need *Other services: testing and help for macular degeneration, cataract surgery, dogs for visually impaired persons, dogs for hearing impaired persons, and eye and tissue banks *Collects used printer cartridges, collects old cell phones, sells broom and mops to fund services *Lunch meetings held at Elks Lodge, 276 Magnolia Dr, Tallahassee

Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center

*Appointment only with Limited services: animal adoption, fostering, lost and found animal reports, transfers to animal welfare organizations, humane education, volunteer opportunities, euthanasia and animal control operations *Under agreement with Refuge House, pets of families entering Refuge House may be kept at center for two weeks at no charge unless they need vaccinations *Serves only within city limits of Tallahassee; division of City of Tallahassee Neighborhood and Community Services *Low-cost rabies clinics, low-cost microchip and low-coast ID clinics the first Tuesday of each month *Adoption questionnaire are available online

*Primarily accepts dogs (and cats) who might otherwise be euthanized from area shelters *Places animals in caring adoptive homes in the Tallahassee area until a permanent home can be found *All animals within the program are neutered or spayed

*Volunteer organization that operates the animal shelter in Madison *Fee for adoption includes spaying, neutering, shots, and testing for diseases *Limited space available (no kill) *Survives through donations of money, clothing, and household items

*Humane services for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife with the goal of returning each into its natural habitat *Primarily serves Leon and Gadsden Counties, will sometimes take drop off animals from other locations *When first found, call St Francis to determine if the animal truly needs to be rescued or left alone *Web-site provides information on handling sick or injured animals; if rescuing/dropping off animal, please put it in a box with air holes, and lined with an old t-shirt *Wild animals or wild birds can be taken to Northwood Animal Hospital anytime 24 hours a day, located at 1881 N Martin Luther King Jr.
