THESE ARE NOT REGULARLY SCHEDULED, SO WILL VARY FROM MONTH TO MONTH, BUT CHECKING IT MAY GIVE YOU MORE REFERRALS*****
*Supplies food throughout the Big Bend to qualified partner agencies for distribution to those in need; does not provide services directly to individual clients, except for the Mobile Pantry Program and Food on the Move summer meals program
*For Food Pantry and Mobile Food Pantry referrals, use the agency's website to search by county, or call 2-1-1.
*Free public Food Lockers are available at Sabal Palm Elementary school. The Lockers are temperature controlled, and will be a spot where the public can order and pick up 20 pound food boxes for their families. Additional schools are planned. *Senior Grocery Program provides a bag of groceries at end of the month to low-income elderly through various agencies
*Must be food insecure, have the ability to prepare own meals, and live in the following counties: Gulf, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, or Taylor
*Interested seniors may self refer by calling or emailing Doris Hogan, 850-562-3033 ext. 212 or doris@fightinghunger.org
*Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides seniors with a 30-40 pound box of shelf stable items and 1 pound of cheese once a month. You must live in the following counties: Hamilton, Calhoun, Liberty, or Madison. Please contact Doris Hogan, 850-562-3033 ext. 212 or doris@fightinghunger.org, for additional information.
*Second Harvest does not always answer their calls, and unanswered calls send callers to an automated menu. The automated menu tells callers they can press 1 to find out where they can get help today. When a caller does this, the next menu gives them the option to dial 1 again to reach '2-1-1 of the Big Bend for help'. (In case callers are confused about why they have reached us after calling the Second Harvest.)
*Children's Programs:
*Backpack program provides children with bags of food to take home each Friday at selected school to ensure nutritional needs are met over the weekend
*School Pantry program provides families with a box of food at least once a month at selected schools
*Kids Café helps feed children at participating churches and community centers
*Summer Break Spot offers a nutritious meal and/or snack during summer months at sponsored sites; or may use FDACS! state wide map to find a site near the child at https://www.summerbreakspot.org/. Note, the map is only live during the summer
