*National service program administered through the Corporation for National & Community Service, dedicated to ending poverty by building the capacity of nonprofit organizations and public agencies
*Members serve full time for 1 full year at a community organization (nonprofit, college/university, local government office, etc.) on anti-poverty projects that build the capacity of their organization
*Eligibility requires applicants are 18+, pass a national service criminal history check, and hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens and persons residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status; some specialized VISTA positions may have requirements for a college degree, specific experience, languages, etcetera
*Those accepted into the program receive a modest bi-weekly living allowance to cover basic expense while in service and are paid at the end of the service by choosing between a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $6,000) to pay for a range of education expenses or a $1,800 cash stipend
