Description:
*Protects and advocates for the best interests of children involved in dependency court proceedings by recruiting attorneys and other volunteers to serve as guardians ad litem to ensure financial, health, educational and social needs of children who are abused, neglected, and find themselves in the state system
*Guardians investigate the family environment, relationships, and history; facilitates a collaborative relationship that identifies and provides resources and services so that the child's needs are met; advocates for the child in court proceedings and makes independent recommendations to the judge; and monitors the status and progression of court orders and DCF plans for the child's future
*Volunteers must give written application, criminal background screening, reference checks, personal interview and 30 hours of training to include courtroom observation
