Description:

*Organization offers counseling, support groups, education, workshops, publications, financial assistance, co-pay assistance, and community programs
*Free short-term counseling from oncology social workers by phone or online
*Financial Assistance Program helps with treatment-related costs, such as transportation, home care and child care; funding available depends on diagnosis and location; to be eligible you must have a confirmed diagnosis of cancer, be in active treatment, be a U.S. citizen, and meet financial guidelines based on the federal poverty limit; to apply 1) call the Hopeline for a brief interview with a social worker; 2) documentation required is verification of income (tax return or check stub) or if no income, a letter of support from a friend or family member; 3) Client and Oncologist complete the application and mail, email, or fax competed application
*CancerCare!€™s financial assistance does not cover basic living expenses such as rent, mortgages, utility payments or food
*Online support groups use a password-protected message board format (not live chat) and are moderated by oncology social workers; groups are held for 15 weeks at a time, and group members must register to join
*Telephone support groups are held in weekly, regularly scheduled, one-hour sessions; English and Spanish groups available
