Description:
*Domestic violence and sexual assault hotline and shelter, available to all genders
*Persons unable to call due to safety or other reasons may email the emergency hotline at helpdesk@refugehouse.com
*Offers emergency safe shelters in Leon and Taylor Counties for battered women and children, all services available to persons in the eight county Big Bend area
*Other services include: basic needs such as food, clothing, personal care supplies, school supplies for children, counseling, support groups, special activities to help children recover, transitional housing
*Transportation assistance: Does not generally provide transportation *to* the shelter, but will work on a case-by-case basis. Typically only offers transportation services once they are in the shelter, if they have enough volunteers. Currently these services are very limited.
*Outreach: individual and group counseling for women and children in shelter and in outreach offices; information and referral to other services needed
*Legal advocacy: PADVI (The Program to Assist with Domestic Violence Injunctions) available in Leon County; explains injunction progress, assists with paperwork, provides court accompaniment, counseling and referrals for legal assistance; located in Leon County Courthouse, Room 164-A; open M-F 9am-5pm; call (850) 606-4157
*Under agreement with Tallahassee-Leon County Animal Shelter, pets of families entering shelter may be kept at center for two weeks at no charge unless they need vaccinations; should stay need to be longer, each case assessed individually
