3/4/2024: NO FUNDING AVAILABLE AS OF APRIL 7, 2023 *Program consists of two components including a 15-week class called Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-by World; then upon completion, participants shift to the Staying Ahead Program where they are paired with 2 mentors who meet regularly for about 6 months to advise, counsel and encourage *Program assists with GED, trade/vocational education, higher education to improve opportunities for jobs with a livable wage; employability skills, and opportunity to participate in the Agency’s On-The-Job Training (OJT) Program; job placement, coaching, and counseling; ongoing counseling, monitoring, and support from a case manager/social worker to ensure continued progress toward family self-sufficiency goals; multiple opportunities for crisis/emergency assistance during the first year (rent, utilities, food vouchers, transportation, childcare) based on the availability of resources *Participants meet once a week in a relaxed discussion type atmosphere and class members work closely with Career Source, TCC and Lively Vocational School; funding may be available to pay for tuition, books, job training, childcare on a case by case basis *Call for more information about class dates and times *Persons interested in becoming a mentor may fill out an application on website or call to volunteer

*Classroom programs for persons 16 and older: GED classes, classes teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), high school classes for students who want to improve a grade and adults missing credits, and two programs serving adults with special needs *GED testing has four subjects divided into separate exams; Reasoning Through Language Arts (150 minutes with a 10-minute break), Mathematics Reasoning (115 minutes), Science (90 minutes), Social Studies (70 minutes); at least 145 points are required on each exam to pass; each exam costs $32 and retakes cost $12 *Some of the GED and ESOL courses are available online *Most classes are $40 a semester with the exception of the classes for adults with special needs which do not have a fee

*Services for disconnected youth, ages 16-24, who are not in school and may or may not be employed, depending on employment circumstances *Path to essential services, vocational education opportunities, short-term apprenticeships with local organizations, and workforce training through job placement *Participants referred for screening and assessment for GED examination; assigned to a specialist and complete a five-week course until exam administration *If a participant already has a diploma or GED, a CSCR specialist will assist with job training and placement *Proactive crime prevention initiative which connects with at-risk youth and addresses underlying issues *Employment partnerships in retail, hospitality, education, government, info technology, healthcare, and manufacturing *While in the program, a participant will be dismissed for an arrest or if on probation, a violation

*Adult men's (18+) licensed counseling services and faith-based year-long residential programs for recovery from substance abuse and other life controlling addictions which accepts referrals from court system including men from outside of the Big Bend area *Program requires biblical study, regular church attendance, one-on-one mentoring, job training and active work in micro-business run by the program; GED study available when needed *Paperwork required includes a picture ID (driver’s license, state ID), a social security card (or letter from SS office stating you have applied), medical paperwork/tests (Physical, TB, HIV, HEP-C tests results), Medical Insurance Card (if covered, for incidental medical needs); Green Card (if a non-citizen permanent resident) *No private insurance accepted, not-for-profit is a low cost program $200 a month or $1800 a year (non-refundable) that turns no one away; those without funds work to pay for their treatment; clients on disabilty may be offered an alternative option
