Pagers

Taxonomy Code: BM-5050.6000

Programs that pay for or provide access to pocket-sized telecommunications devices which beep, flash or vibrate when they receive a transmission and display a text message or allow the user to retrieve a voicemail message. Included are one-way pagers that only receive messages and two-way pagers that can also send messages using a small keyboard. Pagers can be used in places where cell phones typically cannot reach as well as in places where the operation of the radio transmitters contained in mobile phones is problematic or prohibited, e.g., a hospital where sensitive equipment may be disrupted.
