Botanical and Horticultural Libraries

Taxonomy Code: TJ-4400.8100-080

Libraries that specialize in the collection and preservation of literature and other material about plants. Included are seed libraries that serve as a depository for seeds held in trust for library members. Members are allowed to borrow seed for their garden, grow the plants and, at the end of season, let a few plants go to seed to replenish the library's supply. Botanical and horticultural libraries can be found in arboretums, botanical gardens, research institutions, horticultural societies, conservatories, governmental offices, colleges and universities as part of a larger university library.
