Boating Safety Education

Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures that people can take to ensure their safety when engaging in water-based recreation including rowing, canoeing, sailing and outboard motoring. Boat safety programs provide information about boating safety, small boat handling, legal requirements, rules of the road, nautical terminology, aids to navigation and other similar topics.

Lifeguard Training

Programs that provide instruction for individuals who want to develop the knowledge and skills that will enable them to respond effectively to aquatic emergencies. Training includes surveillance skills, rescue skills, first aid and CPR, and professional lifeguarding responsibilities such as appropriate interaction with the public and managing uncoopertive patrons. Most programs require that participants pass a 500 yard swim using crawl, side and back strokes; and demonstrate rescue skills. Certificates are provided to people who successfully complete the course.
